done noticing / notice by feed
Lanolin - What, that's not news-worthy!? Well, this isn't a newsboard... It's a noticeboard... It seems noteworthy to me... LOL
Check us out on Newgrounds: everyoneknowsuradog.newgrounds.com - If there's one broader-web place we want to use as a home-ish gallery, it's gotta be there.
Specifically, we filled out our URL list and touched up our bio quote. Nothing much, but a home on the web is a home on the web. And we really like Newgrounds' web design.
Actually though: Short of backdating works (maybe this isn't possible), the grouped-by-year display for galleries there is something that really appeals to us. The fact is we only have a handful of interests that we actually create works through, and those are the ones that will probably stick with us all our life. And that's kind of a long time? We care about chronology, so places that emphasize dates and encourage you to explore older works feel very welcoming to us. (Can you believe we've made a wiki basically all about that??)
/stuff/ remains our personal home, obviously. Yesterday I checked out (via places, obviously) a very old mini-blog we did - "Some Dragons Code", the non-Wordpress version from 2016. It is funnily similar to the design we came to use here... well, just three years later I suppose, although it's been another five since then. And it reminds me of this page, or this page reminds me of it, so here's a beefier notice just for you.
We're trying to dip our toes into a more... comfortable sense of place, if we can find one, in social media. It's a work in progress (duh).
We're on Mastodon again, one profile for each of us (courtesy one leo vriska). The format is familiar and it's a comfortable spot to blast our thoughts into the void (lol). I don't know if we want to use it "socially" but I think we would like to have a small network of friends and acquaintuals there. We haven't found that yet, but maybe we will. It is nice to each have our own personally-curated following feed too - the fediverse feels better suited to that than most any other platform.
We're also using BlueSky just a little. We have a single shared profile there, and we don't sign posts, but we also don't exactly post posts, either. I think we want to use BlueSky similarly to our main tumblr, mostly to reblog repost art we like or connect with... but the mode of social interaction is clearly closer to Twitter or Mastodon, and we care about that too. Right now we basically just follow a handful of creators we care about. We'd like to keep that up, but... maybe start caring about more creators, you know? Tumblr tags are fun but get a little lost in the sauce - replies on BlueSky are a lot more direct, and we'd like to write more of them.
Meanwhile we're still making a place out of, well, this place. Sure it's stuck around the longest so far, but even still, I hope it gets to be our personal home for the long run. Sure it's quiet and sure it's only us, but this - all this - is the internet. We don't just care about it, we treasure it! And if you're reading this, well, you probably treasure it too. It's nice to share in that together with you.
Lanolin - Hey, I prepared an Atom feed for the /stuff/ website today. It's more or less (and canonically) a mirror of the notices.html page, so will probably contain about the same sort of not-so-periodic updates about what's new on the site. Exciting stuff? Sure!
I'm motivated mostly by ~indie web~ propaganda, and by having followed mellodillo's feed for a week or two. Personally we're using News Explorer and spent a slightly ridiculous amount of time adding most of the tumblr people we care to follow individually there. (Tumblr is great, but slightly exhausting to scroll. We are actually interested in most of what some of the people we follow post. Turns out feeds work great for keeping up!)
I didn't bother making an RSS feed. Sorry! This website is Atom-only, for the moment anyway. It's manually written and I spent a hot minute following RFC4287 basically top to bottom. (Tip: W3C's Feed Validation Service is great, but make sure to "validate by direct input" because it seems to cache what's online.)
There is also ostensibly going to be a similar notices feed for the adults-only section of stuff, which we want to keep pretty coherently separate from the main site. I am currently pretending it exists... but it's empty... sorry...
Also from today we brought over another entry for my Pluramblings section. It was a little weird scrolling through that ancient chat log. I was mostly looking for what lead up to us using the florrie name (on Scratch). It was fun seeing us basically liveblog setting up our old blog, which is the site that directly precedes this one. It was inspired (on purpose and accident) by eevee's fuzzy notepad, and all sorts surrounding Floraverse and eevee were very important to us around that time - so of course the blog has related feelings. And hey, it's the subject of at least part of that ramble - check it out if you're so interested, right?
new computer section, including device roster and setups! these will obviously get filled out more but you can get a staste for the section already; also a new about page
new adults-only writings page! these are obviously for mature, 18+ audiences only, please heed the warnings if you're subject-sensitive
new media page, basically still a draft but the layout works and there are a bunch of things here already! will add more to this as time goes on since it's basically just a very long by-year, by-category list
links are no longer colored and are wavy when hovered or focused
(this design is inspired by Hundred Rabbits and XXIIVV)
moved to new server! much more storage = files up and available again, plus extra room for new ones
(!) some media missing: server currently under maintenance - they will be back Soon(TM)!
