Shirley Crisholm wanted herself to be seen as a reminder of the fact that you
could be who you wanted, and that you could do what you wanted, improve the
world the way you wanted, regardless of where you were born or what kind of
person you started out as. She found it important to remember that, even moreso
than what she actually did.
