A large area of air that has the same temperature throughout it's mass.

What are two different ways meteorologists measure conditions in the upper atmosphere?

One way is by taking a picture of the clouds in various areas, which produces information. Another way is by sending a balloon with various tracking devices for finding information very high up in the sky.

Why is a short-range forecast more reliable than an extended forcast?

Short-ranged forecasts use more up-to-date information, while extended forecasts use information from previous days.
