quirk [RL/GG], psych, memory being a pain as usual
RL: We need to (re?)evaluate what we want to get from our psychology appointments.
GG: oh god why do i never remember what happened in any of our previous appiontments
GG: its not like i literally dont remember the experience of going there i just do not recall anything we said or talked about at all
GG: tack that on top of it being three(?)-ish weeks since the last time we went and i can barely even remember if we didnt go two weeks ago
GG: im pretty sure we decided to delay it, and i stand by that, but i do not remember what the emotions/reasoning at the time were v._.v so theres no way for me to comment on that at the appointment tomorrow, arf
quirk [RL/GG], psych, memory
GG: admittedly...
RL: If we lack an overarching theme to our psychology appointments, we aren't going to identify that in the span of a day; so,
GG: may as well talk about memory stuff??? its not like it hasnt been on mind a lot lately and it is directly within his sector of study as a psychologist, so!!!
quirk [GG], psych, memory being a pain as usual
this post re: a friend
yeah, absolutely! we sometimes take notes beforehand but getting a summary of stuff that was gone over concretely written out after going would probably be of huge use for actually recalling and referencing what we talked about later
quirk [GG], psych appointment shenanigans
its been three weeks delayed one day and ive been getting this whole journal set up so im able to make it actually productive and its twenty minutes til the appointment starts and he still hasnt sent me the invite email, pleeasssee v;n;v
quirk [GG], psych appointment shenanigans
compulsively opening more than three tabs of gmail will make it arrive faster right?? (: /s
quirk [GG], psych appointment shenanigans
oh shit it was apparently rescheduled to two o clock??
i have no recollection of anybody telling me this vV_Vv
quirk [GG], plural, system speak
weve been listening to the podcast systemspeak lately, as part of trying to learn more about other peoples experiences with plurality!
the episode we just watched explores what different kinds of, like-- i dunno what the neutral word for it is? alters/parts/
it ends on a note of working together to understand what everyone in your system might be needing at any point. an example sasha uses is (very paraphrased), "if [someone else] is spending all their time working, and i realize we need to take a break, im going to speak up -- but if she isnt listening and i just sound like some grumbly feeling, shes just going to keep feeling bad and guilty while trying to work!" if she were to listen, theyd be able to work together to take a break - and come back to the task properly refreshed.
quirk [GG], plural, system speak
the example is kinda illuminating for us, cus (as the main head in 90% of our activities) im clearly aware of that kind of feeling happening a lot of the time -- working on something i feel like i SHOULD be wanting to, but feeling like its contradicting what parts of me WANT. i disregard them as "feelings i shouldnt be having right now" and push myself to keep working on whatever it is, but... its pretty obvious now that that probably isnt healthy for any of us!!
so thats something i wanna work on as best i can. if something feels wrong, it probably feels wrong for a reason, so: no denying it and shutting the feelings down. doesnt mean the final decision will always be to take a break or stop!! but it DOES mean recognizing that those feelings are real and have reason, and paying attention to work out how to approach our time/activities/etc better by taking all feelings around them into account.
quirk [GG], psych appointment results (+), memory
just finished the call with my psychologist and tied off the notebook page for that appointment! (ive started taking these so i have any hope of remembering what past appointments were like, lol)
and it went pretty well!! lots of stuff to think about, probably. mainly we found out particular words for the part of our memory that sux - ie, episodic memory - and... well...
it kinda feels relieving having confirmation that the episodic sector of our memory is actually genuinely a lot worse than most peoples, heh. like there are actually 1) real reasons our brain is like this, and 2) real stuff we can probably do to work on improving it. were gonna look into that more next appointment a week from now!! (six days actually. back to thursday!)
quirk [GG/YF], psych appointment results (+), depersonalization mention
also god fucking damn we actually felt present in conversation, body, and mind all but entirely through a psych appointment for once, thank goodness lol
