not sure how to nicely separate some #aggregate code from
its dependency on colors, so it lives out of util for now
not used anywhere on client but would be nice to support
there eventually

This isn't viable yet because it includes full on-device path
names - not good for sharing between devices (or privacy!).
But the gist of writing and integration into the queue is here.
