Back when I joined the DMT, I wrote a song called [[track:cooldown-desynced|"Cooldown"]] that was intended to be Dad Bedford's Strife theme. Initially I had intended it to be a strife theme for both Dad and Kate sort of how [[track:aggrieve|"Aggrieve"]] from the Homestuck OST was a strife theme for both Rose and Her Mom. However, as I read the comic further, I understood that Dad probably would never raise a hand toward toward his daughter (but dear-person is different story). With this in mind, I decided to set out and make a strife theme specifically for Kate. I had intended this song to be on [[album:desynced-vol-2|Volume 2]] but we needed to round out the track list for Volume 1 and my song fit the general tone of the album. As for the song itself, I decided to go for a more 8-bit direction that was reminiscent of the early Homestuck strife themes like [[track:showtime-original-mix|Showtime]] and Aggrieve. I incorporated elements of Kate's theme, [[track:daughter-desynced|"Daughter"]] as well as the previously mentioned "Cooldown" I'm fairly proud of how this track turned out, especially with the Cooldown section towards the middle. --- @@ -178,12 +179,13 @@ Duration: '3:13' URLs: - https://desynced.bandcamp.com/track/cooldown - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPht5CPa6h4 +- https://soundcloud.com/andyomon00/7-cooldown Cover Artists: - Siedlag Art Tags: - Kate's dad (Desynced) Commentary: |- - Rainy: ([YouTube description](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WDN1T5Q12c), excerpt) + Rainy: ([YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WDN1T5Q12c) / [SoundCloud](https://soundcloud.com/andyomon00/7-cooldown) descriptions, excerpt) Cooldown is a bit special to me since it was the first track I wrote when I joined the desynced team back in November 2019. Dude jokes all the time that people think his music sounds like Kirby music and I thought who better to reach out to help with a Kirby styled track. The process this time around was pretty simple, I sent him my original demo and he added stuff and sent it back to me until the track was done. For me, there really wasn’t a singular major inspiration for this track aside from SNES Era Kirby soundtracks. Eagle eared listeners will hear a call back to my track [[track:torchlight-vast-error|“Torchlight”]] from Vol.5. In a way I wanted to redeem that track given the less than pleasant circumstances of its making. I definitely think that Levc carried this song hard especially with that slowdown section towards the end of the track which is insane. Anyway, Levc’s cool as fuck and I hope to work again with him on something. - Levc: ([YouTube description](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8ABDFM9xuw), excerpt) + Levc: ([YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8ABDFM9xuw) / [SoundCloud](https://soundcloud.com/user-552040225/9-strobelite-striker-ft-levc) descriptions, excerpt) Rainy contacted with me to work on this track since it's supposed to sound like a kirby song. And I'm the guy that always get's "this sounds like a kirby song" on his music so I guess that checks out lmao (lov u rainy I'm your fan ur best fren). Classic kirby tracks are so much fun thanks to it's structure and melodic composition, tho ironicly I was just thinking in the "kirby forgor his lan [ADD SKULL EMOTE HERE]" OST since it's really good. You can tell by some of the sections I worked in (like that really cool C section with a ostinato melody that also shows up in the end of the track). My favorite part is the one before the climatic end, that slow section that gets even slower to BURST UP with a ton of energy! That sick move was inspired by lemon demon's ["When He Died"](https://lemondemon.bandcamp.com/track/when-he-died). Also the general vibe of that slow part was inspired by ["proto man theme"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIDkiPAqhhk) from megaman... I wanted to write a Super Metroid inspired battle theme for Occeus in the vein of [[track:big-boss-confrontation-bgm-ridley-draigon|“Ridley’s Theme.”]] I was initially going to use soundfonts for this song but quickly realized that the Metroid soundfont sucked and decided to utilize synths instead. Personally, I don’t feel like I’m as well versed in utilizing synths compared to other music team members, so figuring out how to make my composition shine while using them was an uphill battle. Making things more difficult is the fact that Metroid’s music is typically less melody driven which contrasts starkly with my style. All that being said I began to pull in other influences to help move the song along. Aside from Ridley’s theme, the other big influence on this track was [[track:atomyk-ebonpyre|“Atomyk Ebonpyre”]] with its industrial feel, abrasive synths and early Toby’s signature winding melodic lines. Through combination of these two influences, I got something that was distinctly dark, alien, and futuristic. Initially, this was going to be a collab between me and [[artist:dbnet18|dbnet]] but for time constraint reasons it fell through. I wrote the initial demo very early on but it wound up being the last song I wrote on the album. For this track I wanted to write something in the vein of Secret of Mana’s [“Viridian Dance.”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2E2LqFwn9v8) However, as I got to writing parts for the collab, the songs concept mutated. I was listening to [“Battle on the Big Bridge”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycO1_T6sLHw) from Final Fantasy V and though it would be interesting if wrote an opening 6/4 arpeggio section just like that song. From there, I went wild lol. One of my biggest regrets with this album was the fact I didn’t use odd time signature as much as I would have liked. To make up for it, I went hard on the time signatures on this track. This is the closest thing to an outright progressive rock song I’ve ever written and I’m pretty proud of it. --- Track: Go Beyond And Fight Further (Ft. Like all my songs on this album, this was intended for vol.6 as a character theme for Metatron. The main influence from this track was Toby Fox’s early homestuck “” chiptune”” work using NES Pulse, Tri and Noise. To be blunt, these plugins are pretty shit for creating believable chiptune instruments but they have a distinct crust to their sound, so I’ll let it slide. As a challenge to myself, I decided to write within NES channel limitations and only use 5 channels for my various instruments. The result is a song that tries to do a lot with very little. It was initially titled "Atomsplitter" and was originally intended to be a Dismas Track since dude hasn’t had any music specifically about him since Vol.4 (which I will rectify mark my words). This track in particular was directly inspired by the [“Altered Beast Suite”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4odRl9np7rA) off of King Gizzard’s “Murder of the Universe” album, specifically [“Altered Beast III.”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXZ55v0RIcM) The whole song started with me writing a riff in 6/4 and the whole track or less was built out from there. Funnily enough, Votl actually gave me the idea for the to incorporate 7/4 into this song when he misheard the riff as being alternating measures of 6/4 and 7/4. While I didn’t do that in the song, I did make it so that the main riff, I did make it so that riff ends with a single bar of 7/4 before starting again. This might be one of my most complex songs just given the fact that it goes through like 5 different time signatures through the whole thing. At one point, it literally had a math equation to capture all the rhythmic changes going on. I digress, but I’m very proud of how it came together and happy how the pick scrapes by Votl added to the piece. --- @@ -136,8 +144,14 @@ Referenced Tracks: --- Track: By My Blade (Justice Is Served) Additional Names: -- Name: By My Blade (Justice is Served) (feat [@dbnet18](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa46F53RUfEYG6UMP56dxOw) ) - Annotation: '[YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok3_j2kUahY)' +- Name: >- + By My Blade (Justice is Served) (feat [@dbnet18](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa46F53RUfEYG6UMP56dxOw) ) + Annotation: >- + [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok3_j2kUahY) +- Name: >- + By My Blade (Justice Is Served) (feat dbnet) + Annotation: >- + [SoundCloud](https://soundcloud.com/user-552040225/vast-error-magnum-opus-by-my-blade-justice-is-served-feat-dbnet), minus album name Artists: - Rainy (composition, arrangement, production) - dbnet18 (composition, arrangement, production) @@ -148,6 +162,8 @@ Cover Artists: Duration: '2:16' URLs: - https://vasterror.bandcamp.com/track/by-my-blade-justice-is-served +- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok3_j2kUahY +- https://soundcloud.com/user-552040225/vast-error-magnum-opus-by-my-blade-justice-is-served-feat-dbnet Commentary: |- Rainy: ([YouTube description](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok3_j2kUahY), excerpt) diff --git a/album/pantheon.yaml b/album/pantheon.yaml index f83eb336..dd0be9f5 100644 --- a/album/pantheon.yaml +++ b/album/pantheon.yaml @@ -175,10 +175,15 @@ Additional Names: [BONUS] ~ AUTOMATA Annotation: >- [Bandcamp](https://desynced.bandcamp.com/track/bonus-automata) +- Name: >- + [Unofficial Desynced Music] AUTOMATA + Annotation: >- + [SoundCloud](https://soundcloud.com/user-552040225/unofficial-desynced-music-automata) Duration: '1:13' URLs: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbYNB-UWIG0 - https://desynced.bandcamp.com/track/bonus-automata +- https://soundcloud.com/user-552040225/unofficial-desynced-music-automata Art Tags: - Enid (Desynced) Referenced Tracks: @@ -191,6 +196,10 @@ Lyrics: |- (Open the pod bay doors, HAL.)
