Stan LePard: ([SoundCloud description](https://soundcloud.com/stanlepard/1996-internet-starter-kit-velkommen-original-mix), excerpt, 5/22/2020)

This is the remastered unedited original mix from 1996. An edited version of this piece was also used as the OOBE setup music for Windows 98 and Windows XP. Composed, produced and performed by Stan LePard.

   Stan Lepard: ([SoundCloud comment](https://soundcloud.com/stanlepard/1996-internet-starter-kit-velkommen-original-mix), 5/26/2020-8/27/2010)

   > Murst Can Turgut:
   > Which software did you use? Any additional equipment or hardware besides software? I'd love to recreate this one or make a remix if you shared a project file one day! Thank you for this a lot!

I don't have access to the project file anymore. It would have been Studio Vision Pro which is no longer supported usable on current Macs. The sound generators would have been a Roland Sound Canvas (now available as a software plugin) and a Kurzweil K2000.

   > Uriel Ceniceros:
   > Exactly which Sound Canvas module? As far as I know, there exists 5, SC-55, SC-88, SC-88Pro, SC-8820, and SC-8850.

   SC-55

   Stan Lepard: ([SoundCloud comment](https://soundcloud.com/stanlepard/1996-internet-starter-kit-velkommen-original-mix), 7/14/2020)

   > Seek The Truth:
   > (3:48) I've always enjoy this part. Are these actual lyrics of a Gregorian chant?

Probably. This snippet probably came from a recording in a music production library. I don't remember the specifics.

   > Toru the Red Fox:
   > I'm fairly certain it's Sounds Good New World Order #2, CD 2, track 59

   Stan Lepard: ([SoundCloud comment](https://soundcloud.com/stanlepard/1996-internet-starter-kit-velkommen-original-mix), 9/21/2020)

   > o_natha:
   > What operating system at the time did you compose this masterpiece on? And which software/hardware did you use? Lol

I think it was Mac OS 9. The gear was probably Kurzweil K2000, Roland Super Jupiter, Roland Sound Canvas and maybe Yamaha DX7.

   Stan Lepard: ([SoundCloud comment](https://soundcloud.com/stanlepard/1996-internet-starter-kit-velkommen-original-mix), 10/17/2020-10/19/2020)

   > heh:
   > how did he make that \*poh\* sound or that woash sound?

If the poh is the backbeat, I think it was a synthetic snare drum with a lot of reverb. If the woash is at 3:57, it's cymbal roll with padded mallets.

   > heh:
   > thanks for the info, what about the other samples, like the pad, the weird bass guitar, and that choir church thingy, im so close to recreating it in fl studio

At the time I was using a Kurzweil K2000, a Roland Sound Canvas, a Roland Super Jupiter and a Yamaha DX7. The choir sample came from a sample library but I don't remember which..

   Stan Lepard: ([SoundCloud comment](https://soundcloud.com/stanlepard/windows-98-velkommen), 10/18/2020)

   > Toru the Red Fox:
   > wait this was for Windows 98 originally?

Originally it was for Microsoft Internet Starter Kit 3. The internet was new to most people then.

   Stan Lepard: ([SoundCloud comment](https://soundcloud.com/stanlepard/1996-internet-starter-kit-velkommen-original-mix), 1/9/2021)

   > DJ Graco:
   > Really, this track was published in 1994 no 1996, because modified date of the original CD of Starter Kid is 13.08.1994 01:10

That's probably the copyright date of the original software. My music was for version 3, and my records indicate that I started working on it in August 1996.
